While Albert Graham’s $40 in Powerball tickets did not land him the large $1.586 billion jackpot, the retiree is $638,146 richer after he matched 5 of 6 numbers, missing only the Powerball number of ten in Wednesday’s record-setting Powerball jackpot.

Albert and Carol Graham were vacationing at their condo in Santa Cruz, when Albert bought the ticket. The 79-year-old stated he, like most Californians, bought tickets after finding out the jackpot had grown so large. I knew I had to buy tickets, he said.

Graham told the Lottery that he was relaxing Wed night after the Powerball drawing when his tech-savvy wife looked up the results on her iPad.
