‘Big Jon’ Snyder, Sonoma County radio host, newsman, promoter, dies at 48

Published Jan 19

As a high schooler in the East Bay, Jon Snyder was suitable enough a guitarist to ponder a career with a heavy metal band.

But he winced at the thought of all the time he would have to put on the road. His childhood, not a picture of family stability, left him yearning to set roots in a place that he loved.

“When he came to Sonoma County,” recalls his wife, Angelina Snyder, “he commented ‘That’s my home.’”

“Big Jon” Snyder chose radio. He had been a prized presence in the county’s broadcasting scene for more than twenty years when he died Dec. 28 in Cloverdale.

He was 48 and had struggled for years with a disease of the spine, Ankylosing spondylitis.
